L.A. COUNCILMAN KORETZ TRIES TO BAN ELECTRIC SCOOTERS

According to the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Councilman Paul Koretz has sought to temporarily ban electric scooters, like the "Bird" and "Lime." Per the article posted on the Los Angeles Times, Councilman Koretz is seeking to ban all electric scooters and instructing transportation officials to issue cease-and-desist letters to any company offering scooters for hire, such as "Lime" and "Bird."

If the City Council approves this proposed ban, scooter companies would have to secure the right to operate their business in Los Angeles through obtaining permits. City officials are currently debating how to move forward and a decision could come in the next few months. Moreover, the city of Beverly Hills has already approved a six month ban on scooters. Nonetheless, the City's main concern for the scooter ban appears to be to prevent potential personal injury, scooter accidents and pedestrian accidents.
